About Me:
I'm a native of Fort Dodge and have been running my own business since the summer of 2002. I'm very active and enjoy bicycling, motorcycling, and just about anything else outdoors that I can do while listening to my iPod.

My Professional Life: I started as a radio announcer in 1979 at age 18, but later decided to drop my on-air aspirations and join a radio station's advertising sales staff in 1982. From that point on my radio career was spent behind the scenes; first as a manager of a 100,000 watt FM station at the age of 23, and later as a regional manager for a broadcasting group. I have over 25 years of broadcasting, marketing and advertising creation, sales, and management experience, and my articles on sales and advertising have been published internationally. I'm also a Past President of the Iowa Broadcasters Association.

My Podcasting Credentials: You Are The Guest" features people from the United States and around the world who give their opinions on everything from the Iraq War, political corruption and conspiracies, to who they think the next President of the United States will be. Listeners don't have to be rich or famous to be on, and they can be part of podcasting without having their own show.

In 2005, "You Are The Guest" received international praise from one of the most important and widely respected newspapers in the world. France's Le Monde wrote that my news and political opinion talk show was "very original" and gave it a "10 out of 10" rating.

"You Are The Guest" was featured in January 2007 by the nation's second largest magazine. USA WEEKEND invited 3 celebrities to name their favorite podcasts and tell why they liked them. Alan Colmes, radio personality and best known as the co-host of Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes" singled out "You Are The Guest" saying, "I've always thought that anybody can be made to sound interesting, and, thus, be a good guest. This podcast proves my point - everybody has a story worth telling."

Favorite Music:
Classic rock from the 70's, but I have found many new independent artists that are amazing. A few of them are playing on this page, and many are on the main page.
Favorite TV Shows:
Father Ted, Homicide: Life on the Street, and the original reality shows....they're called "sports".

Just want to send a big "thank you" for making this site. Thanks to you I was able to learn more about my reunion and had a wonderful time. Unfortunately not that many people made it as in past years, but for those of us who did, we enjoyed and missed those who weren't with us. Can't wait for #35.

Thank you for welcoming me to this site. I can always appreciate someone who finds unique ways to accomplish when one is told that they can't. I'm originally from Ohio, my husband Fort Dodge. My oldest son graduated from FDSH in 2007.He is a proficient violinist. I am currently attending ICCC and it has opened up worlds for me. I feel I already owe much to Fort Dodge, and Iowa and I hope to reach out to others with my words that may somehow reflect the friendship that has been shown to us. Thank you!

How To Request a Song From the Band

Friends of the podcast, a band from Texas called Common Ground sent this to me, and it is absolutely dead on. Anyone who has ever played in a band knows it to be true, and the truth can be funnier than anything else you could possibly make up.

Thanks to Bill and ever… Continue

The Cool Stuff (Part 2)

Just a couple more insights into how the Internet is forcing the traditional mainstream mediums to conduct their business. Is this particularly brand-new information? No, not really as predictions of trends like these have been coming for years. Heck, most people not involved in th… Continue

You Know, The Cool Stuff! (Part 1)

The trend toward user-created media, such as the things you'll find here at MyFortDodge.com (blogs, podcasts, videos, etc.) continue to grow at an astonishing rate, and show no sign of slowing down in the near future. In fact, it's predicted that the US audience for… Continue

The Lights Are On

I was cleaning out my hard drive this morning, and found and old audio file that I hadn't listened to in years.

Before I left the radio biz, I made a copy of the "All American City" broadcast and award presentation.

Back in 2001, about the only way you could listen to this was to have your own CD of the even… Continue

I Like To Rock

That's right, I like to rock.

Rebels and rock and roll go just seem to go together. If everything's better with Coke, every situation I want to rebel against goes better with a rock and roll soundtrack. As I'm working out at the end of the day, I'll find the most rocking, rebellious songs on my iPod, start the treadmil… Continue

Do You Have Sacks of Money To Burn on Advertising?

Do you have sacks of money to burn on your marketing and advertising? All of the small businesses that I’ve come across say they don’t. Yet there are a good number of small businesses that have held their own marketing and advertising budget bonfires.

How does this happen? A conclusion I’ve come to is that many small businesses burn sa

Grady Meets the Wolfman

I just created a new Group at MyFortDodge.com for my graduating class, FDSH Class of 1979. One of the video clips that I posted on the page features Wolfman Jack on May 18, 1979, which was just a couple of weeks before the Wolfman came to Fort Dodge for Frontier Days.

The Wolfman and I crossed paths a couple of times in our careers.

OK, It Can Stop Raining Now

When the grass was dried up and dead, I thought a little rain is exactly what we needed.

Then we received the rain, and everything started to perk up. The one thing I was hoping wouldn't perk up was the sump pump. Today it's not only perked up, it's running a marathon.

It's no surprise to me that we're getting this much all at once. My theory has been that if it's really dry during a long stretch, it will become very wet over another stretch, and then we'll be back to an average…

Why Many Big Time CEO's Failed

When I was traveling a few years ago to Washington D.C., I stopped into one of those magazine stores at the airport to find something I could read during my flight. The headline from the June 21, 1999 issue of Fortune Magazine jumped off the rack. Since then this article has been one of my favorites to share with friends, associates, and clients.

“It’s rarely for lack of smarts or vision. Most unsuccessful CEO’s stumble because of one s
