The Messenger - Fort Dodge, Iowa

Pros and cons of aquatic center debated

To some, it's an engine that could help propel Fort Dodge into greater economic prosperity while improving the quality of life and providing beneficial recreational opportunities for children. To others, it's a waste of taxpayer dollars that will leach money out of the public coffers for decades to come.

Webster Co. would split sales tax funds

Though the local option sales tax would increase to 1 percent, Webster County roads will continue to receive the half-cent level of funding. Members of the county Board of Supervisors approved a resolution to allocate 50 percent of the revenues to the construction and improvement of roads and bridges.

Quality Inn gets second chance

The Quality Inn in Fort Dodge has been given a second chance. Gary Boerner, the Webster County sanitarian, met with the Webster County Attorney's Office Tuesday morning to discuss the possibility of legal action against the hotel, located at 2001 U.S. Highway 169 S., but it was ultimately decided to wait and see what happens next.

'A premier venue'

Curious fans young and old got their first official glimpse of Dodger Stadium's state-of-the-art field turf during an open house celebration on a picture-perfect evening Tuesday. Nearly 300 people tested the feel of the new playing surface, installed recently by Midwest Fieldturf of Denison.

It sounds easy enough, but the art of spinning takes practice. And more practice. And - well, that's the idea. Spinner Martha Williams, of Kelly - near Ames - learned to spin in 1996 and hasn't looked back.

With the exception of having to bundle up in snow gear and tring to put your costume on over it to go trick or treating, I loved my years in FD. I left in 1982 when my then husband was stationed in Virginia, he was a Navy man. When I left, I left behind many fond memories and friends. We used to walk… Continue
