Mentoring from KCCI's Cortney Kintzer

Sunday we attended our Iowa Professional Videographer's meeting in Johnston http://www.iowaprovideo.com. The guest speaker was KCCI's own Director of Photography/Video, Cortney Kintzer. His presentation included various news stories aired on KCCI as well as "blooper" footage. Cortney was a great mentor presenting ideas on shot composition, camera angles and lighting related to interviews. Joel from our team has also been invited to shadow him one day in… Continue

Fort Dodge Radio Airchecks from the 1980s & Early 90s

On my website, there are quite a few Fort Dodge radio airchecks from 1986-92. Mostly KKEZ and KRIT. Highlights include the flip from 94/KKEZ to Z94 on September 1, 1986 and the debut of KIAQ on August 10, 1992. Plus, all the fun DJs you remember!

Once you're on the site, just search KKEZ, KRIT, Fort Dodge, etc., to find what you want. Have fun!…

Sgt Peppers moment: The Mayor, the DC Trip, and subscribing to the videos on iTunes

New ideas, new ways to communicate. During one of my recent conversations with Fort Dodge Mayor Matt Bemrich we talked about "raising the bar", and today I believe we have a couple of great examples of doing just that.

First of all, below you'll find a video one-on-one conversation with Fort Dodge Mayor Matt Bemrich about his recent trip to Washington D.C., and he talks… Continue

Video: Ice jams on the Des Moines River worsen flood concerns for this week

The combination of recent rain and melting snow has brought many streams and rivers out of their banks across the central and northern Plains. Drier weather will grace these areas in the upcoming days, but flooding problems will remain.

The flooded areas across the Plains will not be entirely dry the next several days. A band of stubborn rain will continue to keep the eastern Dakotas wet through tonight. The rain is not heavy, but will… Continue

Video: How to replace a sump pump

Few household sounds get my attention like the constant running of the sump pump.

It gets my attention because I know if it's running continuously, we're getting a lot of rain, or like today, a lot of rain and snow melt.

Once it reaches the "constant operation stage", I make sure that I do regular status checks in the basement because of one true fact: If my sump pump fails, my finished basement… Continue

It's officially going to be another great Shellabration as Night Ranger and Grand Funk Railroad will be in Fort Dodge on July 3rd, 2010 at the Rogers Sports Complex. The show starts at 7 PM.

Grand Funk Railroad put on a great show the last time they were in Fort Dodge. The Grand Funk show in 2001 at Badger Lake was hugely popular and one that people have talked about for years. It's no surprise that they're the coming back to Fort Dodge…

If disaster strikes, will your pets be safe?

Have you made plans for your pets in case of a natural disaster? If there's a fire in your home, will the fire department know there are pets inside? If you have to evacuate due to flood, power outage or other disaster, do you have a place for your pets to go?

Most of us would probably answer "no" to the above questions. Many of us, according to studies done by the Ohio State University, also say we would refuse to evacuate without our pets (28%… Continue
