Bob: Terry Mason was my PD in Orlando. He was a KOIL guy of course, but still had plenty of good stories about WOW and their legendary radio wars during the 1970s. I actually listened to KOIL for "American Top 40" back in 1973. 7-10 on Sunday nights…
WOW has legendary status among my age group. They brought in their Top 40 programming in 1970 to compete with KOIL and they kicked some butt. Jimmy O'Neil, Erik Foxx, Mike Rivers, and Skip Coy were great on air with "Your Old Buddy" Mike Rivers my f…
By the way...I couldn't help but notice...is it just a coincidence, or is the orange radio in this topic profile purposely tuned to what appears to be the late, great WOW-AM 590 in Omaha?
A great station with an incredible signal. As a kid growing…
Joe Z. left after...what...24 years? Lindy Kaye left after 20+ years. Jane walked out after 27 years. In the span of just a few months, KKEZ-KWMT lost a combined 70+ years of experience. Ouch! That hurts. The effects of this on the air product are o…
I was part of Fort Dodge radio, back when it was live, local, and FUN to listen to! Did nights on KKEZ (Z-94) from August, 1986 - March, 1987. Then, we moved KRIT (Super 97) from Clarion into Fort Dodge. I did nights there from May - November, 1987. Fun times and a great place for a "Baby DJ" to get his start in high-energy Top 40 radio!
Being too young to know better, I went by "The Minnesota Maniac" on-the-air. Amazingly enough, I did not get run out of town for this stunt. However, I was only 41 minutes into my first show when I received my first "Minnesota joke" on the request line!
Top 40 hits of the 1970s and 1980s. Especially the more obscure hits and "one-hit wonder" artists. Examples: Billy Branigan, Blue Magic, Daniel Boone, Mocedades, the Partland Brothers, the Addrisi Brothers, Eruption, Focus, Henry Lee Summer, Greg Guidry, and Marshall Crenshaw.
If you know who these artists are, you're my kind of people. If you have the original 45s of their songs, you belong on my list of heroes!

Hello there Drew! Thanks for writing. Yes I am still here at KQWC radio as news director. I will mark 31 years this coming Friday! Life has been very good to me as I carry on with my radio work and in the Webster City community. Keep in touch! :)
I haven't been nearly as many places as you have...but I did do Minnesota, Wisconsin, Arizona, and a couple different places in Iowa. And saying it like that sounds kinda bad! LOL We should really catch up a little more. I went from being the sweet and innocent (was I really innocent?) to not so sweet and innocent. LOL Do you ever talk to Dave? I haven't in years and would love to catch up with him too.
OMG! Drew! I don't know if you remember me or not, but I used to call the station almost every night and you would sometimes give highlights of my day on the air. You and Dave also came into Happy Chef a couple times when I worked there. You were one of my fave dj's from those days. Always wondered what happened to you. Send me a message sometime!
So many stories about the old radio days. I got out of radio in 1999 one year after I was diagnosed with MS and am now on disability, but I have picked up writing as a second career and have written one book and am working on a second one. My agent tells me he is close to getting a book contract for the first one and I am excited about the prospects.
