Glad you got the balloon. I think it was Wednesday evening and there was a balloon up to the west of the airport. Too high and in the sun to get a good pic. Yes, it is nice to know someone else finds the same things interesting. Hope to bump into you one day. Take care.

In the old days, you sure could have! I've given many rides to railroad nuts, wives and children of rails etc, right up to the Union Pacific Railroad takeover in 1995. Nowadays, with the UP mentality and homeland security, it is impossible. Today, access to any railroad property is denied and actively enforced. Every engine now has a camera on it, which is viewed by officials in some remote location. I've been told to "get lost" for taking pictures on railroad property when I wasn't on duty and had no legitimate reason for being there, other than taking pictures. And I have been working for the RR for 30 years now! I have even been warned about putting my pics on the internet if it is obvious they have been shot from the inside of an engine-one of my favorite angles, since I am sitting in the engineer seat anyway! It's getting harder and harder for us to be a railroad nut these days for sure. I think that the 300 telephoto lens and a pocket railroad scanner are your best friends anymore...

We used to walk across that CGW bridge when we were little. I was too afraid to ride my bike across, like some others did! I had an old IC carman buddy who used to live under it when he was little. His name was Hockey Hill. He could throw a baseball OVER it from down below! He even put out a little book years ago about growing up in the "Flats".

Keep those shots coming and stay safe out there!!! Later, Joe
