First, I am safe, sound, and still upright. All I can say is that it was brutally hot out there yesterday, but with my coach's advice and the support of my friends, I finished - albeit walking the last 4 miles due to the cancellation of the race. Despite my efforts to start running again, the police kept us at a walk. The temp was 88 with a heat index of 90, and just before noon they cancelled the race due to unsafe conditions and the lack of paramedic support. Yes, they pulled the paramedics

Training continues as I push the limits on what this old body can do in preparation for the big day. Although - I have to admit - the longest run I've had this season has been 13 miles, but then I didn't expect to lose 6 weeks with a gallbladder/hernia snafu. I amazed myself last week with almost 30 total miles! As a reward for a job well done, I transferred to the bike today for an amazing 40 minute spin. Well folks, October 7th is about a month away.. and I'm back putting myself through the paces for the big event. Lots and lots of running, biking, weights - trying to build up my endurance and get my body used to the pounding it will be taking. The scene opens up with some ominous music.. slightly spooky, yet not to scare the children. Enters one tired female. She shuffles to the kitchen table only to find a jar, placed in the center. She carefully examines it.. and discovers it's haunting contents.... her gallbladder!
Ok, so it's not that melodramatic folks! It's just a stinking gallbladder.. and yesterday, mine decided to vacate the buiding thanks to the talents of Dr. Arain and his team :) Yes, the woes of being 40, fe

I sit here - in a quiet house (yes, the kids are out at the moment) - listening to the remnants of a summer storm echoing in the distance. The precautionary candle has been lit.. and fortunately the kittens have yet to discover it! Right now, putting out a flaming kitten is way down low on my 'to do' list.
So, for the time being.. I will enjoy the quiet. And.. I may eat the last remaining cookies. The last TWO cookies from about 2 1/2 dozen I baked. Note to self - hide a few cookies af
