The Romper Room - KQTV and KVFD-TV

Miss Janet was the hostess for Romper Room on KQTV in Fort Dodge, Iowa when this postcard was created around 1966. The local Fort Dodge, Iowa television station would later change it's call sign to KVFD-TV, Channel 21. The station operated until May 4, 1977 when a tornado destroyed the broadcast antennae. The local Fort Dodge television station was never rebuilt, but the license and frequency was transferred to IPTV which operates Channel 21 as a translator channel.

It is always good to see any pictures or stories about KQTV and KVFD on this  Fort Dodge site.  While a student at Buena Vista, I did an internship at KVFD in January of 1972.  A brief capsule exposure to television broadcasting really intensified my interest in that station!  Does anyone remember the KVFD Bumbling Ballhawks basketball team?  They were a group of Iowa Central boys working at the station who went around to different schools and charity events in the area.  They played basketball their way with no rules at all!  What fun it was to watch them.  I remember one night they played at Barnum, and one other night they played at Bode Twin Rivers.  I'll always remember the fun I had, and being so grateful to Ed Breen and Eve Rubenstein for having me.  Thomas Schnirring.
