The Benefit Walk will support the Village's mission of "excellence in service to individuals with disabilities." The goal this year is $100,000. Last year's Benefit Walk in Fort Dodge and Clear Lake raised a record $132,000 for Village services. The non-profit Opportunity Village serves more than 600 individuals and their families in Fort Dodge, Humboldt, Webster City, Eagle Grove and other communities in north Iowa.
Registration packets are available at the Village General Store, 12 N. 25th St., or the administrative office of Northwoods Living in Pine House, 1470 21st Ave. N. Walkers can also email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone Kris at 515-573-4046 to have packets mailed.
Walkers can use sponsor envelopes to collect donations or create online fundraising pages at www.firstgiving.com/opportunityvillage. Donors may wish to sponsor walkers with a check; or they can go to www.firstgiving.com/opportunityvillage or a walker's personal FirstGiving fundraising page to sponsor a walker online by credit card.
Start times are 1 p.m. for the 10-mile walk and 2:30 p.m. for the 3- and 1-mile walks.
The Traveling DJJS DJ's will play tunes with a good beat for those who want a brisk walk. Personal Support Professional Kelsie Mitchell will lead walkers in fun activities like the "Chicken Dance" and "Electric Slide."
